Resumo

The type of relationship between syntax and semantics is a key aspect in the general architecture of every linguistic theory. It is possible to classify each theory according to the form of this relation: either it is assumed there is some sort of prevalence of one level over the other or there is a parallelism between syntax and semantics. Throughout the text, we intend to build a map of conceptual coordinates where we can locate the shape of the syntax-semantics interface of two formal models, specifically, generative grammar and categorial grammar. By comparing the treatment of relative clauses in these models we purport to illustrate the crucial differences in conceiving the syntax-semantics interface.
